This is a journey through lost landscapes.
It was on a sunny spring day in April 2020, and while running I had to remember that we were told that the pandemic was like a marathon.
I tried to imagine what the soundtrack of such a long run would be and immediately thought of an endless 'motorik' beat and that it might be fun to compose a song together with other artist friends who are locked up at the moment. So I asked artists from all over to send me their quarantine-made recordings, which I put together to make this joint song.
The rules were simple: to record 8 bars of anything they wanted on a simple drum and bass track, which I would put together in the manner of an "Exquisite Corpse". ("Exquisite Corpse" is a method where a collection of words or pictures is put together collectively without knowing what the previous person contributed).
The different parts that make up this song are like the pieces that have disappeared from our everyday life. All fragments now come together in a different way, offering new constellations, and telling a story of old fears and new hopes.
Many thanks to all the artists for their contribution and for creating a unique document of an extremely strange time and for making something beautiful out of an uncertain period in our lives.
With Love, Anxiety & Hope,
Alice Gift
